Michelle McCauley Deer Hunting in Illinois

Every year my Husband and a few friends make a trip up to Illinois for bow hunting. Last year they didn't have much luck. I was wondering if anyone had any experience bow hunting in or near Jim Edgar. Whats the deer population like and the success rate? Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thank You -Michelle Continue

Liz Stevens Amish Crafted Hunting Calls

I have an online store, which caters to the cottage craft industry. Several of our products come from deep within the Amish communities. One of our Amish vendors makes a full line of beautiful turkey, deer, elk, predator, and other heirloom quality items. He will build custom variations using different wood combinations, such as cherry, walnut, maple and other wood types, or even provide kits for hunters to build their own custom calls. I have been totally impressed with the quality of these it… Continue

OwnMoreBone Back from the Hunt !!!

Came back a couple of days early. Shot a doe and had to leave her in the woods overnight. Got a little spooky about her spoiling. The weather was not all that good to begin with. The first 2 days we had record highs, then a front came through. The temp dropped 30 degrees and rained nonstop and high winds to go with the rain. Got to pass on 3 bucks though, a 6 point and a couple of spikes. Going to go back in a couple of weeks to see if I can fill the rest of t

Eric Trip up to the lease.

Well, made our trip up to the lease this past weekend. Got up there late friday evening and got some shut eye. Woke up about 6:00 or so saturday morning and went out to the squirrel spot. Saw a few black squirrels but there is still too much green up in the trees. Couldn't get a shot off on any of them. My father shot a couple of rabbits and saw three hogs. I saw a small doe standing next to the feeder in our creek bottom stand. I tried to stand still so I wouldn't spook her and ruin that spo

Man, I can't wait for this weekend. The summer is over and as far as I know, all of our serious work is done up at the hunting lease. We acquired some new land from the people next to our lease from last season and we now have 4800 acres to hunt on. Our lease is located in Nebo, Louisiana. We now have 40 members this season and it looks to be a good season. Everyone is getting along fine and we have a bunch of new faces and that is always fun. Hopefully some of us guys get to shoot at somethi

Jason Steelman First night with my cousin JJ (9/29/07)

My cousin JJ and I decided to go tonight and hunt the stand where I have seen the majority of the bucks around here, and got in the stand around 5 pm, settled in for a good evening of nature, and of course squirrels. Ill make this blog entry very quick as the hunt wasn't very eventful, until the end that is.

For two hours, we saw nothing, and I kept trying to "will" the deer into our corn pile. Finally about 7:35, we decided that shooting light had passed, and I started to lower my bow… Continue

Brian R Tracking

Spent 3 hours looking for a doe yesterday. Buddy got a head start on me for urban hunt. He called me to help trail. As I was working, he looked for 3 hours by himself, with a little help from a couple other hunters.

We couldn't find the arrow. Blood trail started 15-18 yards for point of shot. Decent to good trail for a while then started to dwindle. We found one new spot right in the middle of the road, about the size of a nickel. The next one, about 25 feet away was the size of a pea… Continue
