If baiting deer with corn/soybean is legal in your area you can build a bunch of gravity feeders for the cost of one of those electronic tripod feeders. Here are the directions to build one feeder. To make more than one just multiply the supplies. First, you need a piece of PVC pipe (We use five foot pieces because they are easier to refill with corn once they are emptied, also PVC is sold in lengths of ten and twenty feet so five foot lengths gives you an even amount of feeders). Four inch round pipe works perfect. Just buy the cheapest stuff you can find. Now, you need a endcap for that piece of PVC pipe. Now, take the PVC pipe and cut a small half circle out of one end of the pipe with a jigsaw, or if you don't have a jigsaw available you can cut a square out of the pipe with a hacksaw. Now, tie/tape or strap that piece of pipe to the tree that you wish to feed by. Now, fill it with corn. Some corn will fall out of the bottom until the corn on the ground clogs up the hole and then the pipe will fill up. When you are done filling the feeder place the endcap on top. This will keep debris and other foreign materials from falling into the feeder. It will also keep squirrels and birds from getting in the feeder. When a deer/hog passes by and eats some of the corn more will fall onto the ground.
